Best Practices for Painting Eavestroughs

I’m considering refreshing the exterior of my home and I have a question about maintenance. Specifically, I’m curious about painting metal gutters. I’ve never done this before, so I want to avoid peeling or rust issues.

Can you paint eavestrough in a way that lasts and looks professional? What type of primer and paint should I use for aluminum or steel gutters? Also, is it necessary to remove old layers, or can I paint directly over them?
