I’ve been driving my A4 for a few years now and I’m embarrassed to admit I still don’t really understand what kind of transmission is actually in my car. I see people on here talking about S-tronic, tiptronic, multitronic, DSG, CVT, and honestly my eyes just glaze over because I have no idea what any of it means or which one I’ve even got. My car is a 2016 A4 2.0 TDI Quattro and I know it’s an automatic, but beyond that I’m completely clueless. I’ve been trying to do some research because I want to get the transmission serviced and I figure I should probably know what I’m dealing with before I start calling garages, but every time I read an explanation it gets really technical really fast and I end up more confused than when I started. I found A complete guide to understanding Audi transmission systems that explained the basics in a way I could actually follow, which helped me figure out that mine is probably the S-tronic because it has the Quattro system and a dual-clutch setup, but I’m still not entirely sure. The thing is, I don’t want to sound like an idiot when I take it to a garage and I also want to make sure they’re doing the right service for the specific type of gearbox I have, because I’ve read that the fluid requirements and procedures are completely different between the various transmissions. I’ve also seen some people say the multitronic CVT has a reputation for issues and that the tiptronic torque converter boxes are more durable, but I’m not sure how much of that is just forum gossip versus actual facts. I’d really appreciate it if someone could give me a simple breakdown of what these different transmissions actually are and which models they come in, because I genuinely want to understand my car better. Also, if anyone knows of a decent specialist in Dubai that really knows the S-tronic boxes, I’d love a recommendation because I want to get this service sorted properly without any drama.
