Data pipelines are employed in gathering, processing, transforming, and delivering data from various sources to a point where it can be used for analysis. In case companies inquire about the use of data pipelines, the purpose will depend on the needs of a company, but the typical uses include business intelligence, reporting, machine learning, customer analytics, and operational monitoring among others. For instance, a business collects customer data from its website, sales portal, CRM and marketing software. Through a data pipeline, such data is brought together, cleansing of inconsistent records done, transformation of the data into useful data is completed and then delivered to a central data warehouse. This ensures that employees have access to accurate data and can report on it. The process of gathering information through data pipelines is usually batched and scheduled or continuous where data is processed as soon as it is available. Organizations can use the automation of data pipelines to minimize the work done manually.
